The Comacina Island is the only island of the lake Como.
Today half-deserted, it was inhabited since the times roman.
It had monuments in paeolocristiana age already (V sec.) and it grew of importance until becoming, in the sec.XII one of i Common more powerful of Como lake. When the war between the Common ones burst of Como and Milan the Comacina Island was placed of flank to the from Milan ones to which it gave hand for the destruction of Como.
The revenge of the Comaschi it burst in 1169: all it was destroyed and on the island it did not remain that Hush.The survivors migrate in part on the next coast and part to Varenna. The beautifulst ruderi of one can tutt' today be admired huge Roman Basilica dedicated to S.Eufemia. A visit to the island is prevailed for the wonderful views that it offers, for the great peace and one pause in one between the most typical lariani restaurants. We advise the festival of S.John who celebrates every year, Sunday after the day of S.John (23rd June), with great fireworks on the lake.
